Families Together / Supporting Families whose Children have mental health problems


Campaigning and Influencing

Families Together aims to improve the outcomes for children and young people with mental health problems through participation in research, events and consultations which increase awareness and understanding of their problems. 

Activities have included: 

  • Training of professionals, including attendance at conferences for:
    • Trainee social workers
    • Joint child and adolescent mental health/learning disabilities staff
    • Psychiatrists  
  • Meeting with representatives from the Strategic Health Authority to discuss the problems experienced by members going through the transition to adult mental health services;  
  • Attending a service user participation event for the new adolescent inpatient unit in Lancaster;
  • Providing statements which were included in evidence provided to MP’s to encourage them to support the age appropriate amendment to the new Mental Health Bill.
